About Nick

Professor Nick Drydakis is Professor of Economics in Anglia Ruskin University's Faculty of Business and Law, School of Economics, Finance and Law, Cambridge campus, where he directs the Centre for Inclusive Societies and Economies. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Crete, an MSc in Economics from Athens University of Economics and Business, a BSc in Economics from the University of Crete, and a PG Cert in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education from Anglia Ruskin University. His career trajectory includes prior positions as Senior Lecturer in Economics at Anglia Ruskin University, Lecturer in Labour Economics at the University of Patras, and adjunct lectureships at institutions such as the University of Piraeus, Athens University of Economics and Business, Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences, University of Central Greece, Technological Educational Institute of Athens, and University of Patras. He also served as researcher at the Hellenic Ministry of Defense's Department of Training and the University of Crete's BENETec Laboratory. Currently, at Pembroke College, University of Cambridge, he acts as Course Lead, Academic Associate, and Lecturer, delivering credit-eligible courses on economics of inequality, discrimination, poverty, exploitation, growth, and development to students from Ivy League universities including Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Stanford, and Berkeley.

Drydakis is recognised globally for his research in labour economics, spanning population economics, health economics, artificial intelligence in business and economics, economics of inequality, financial crises and health, digitalisation, business realities, and modern slavery. In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework, his four single-author papers were rated world-leading at ABS 4* level, alongside a world-leading Impact Case Study. Key publications encompass 'Artificial Intelligence Capital and Employment Prospects' (Oxford Economic Papers, 2024), 'Health Inequalities Among People Experiencing Food Insecurity. An Intersectional Approach' (Sociology of Health and Illness, 2023), 'Forced Labor and Health-Related Outcomes. The Case of Beggar Children' (Child Abuse and Neglect, 2023), 'Artificial Intelligence and Reduced SMEs’ Business Risks' (Information Systems Frontiers, 2022), and 'Sexual Orientation Discrimination in the Labor Market Against Gay Men' (Review of Economics of the Household, 2022). He is inaugural Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Economic Exploitation and Inequality and Elsevier's Inequality in Society reference work, Subject Editor and Spokesperson at IZA World of Labor, and Associate Editor of International Journal of Manpower. Holding fellowships as Research Fellow at IZA-LISER, Fellow and Cluster Lead at Global Labor Organisation, and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, he consults for the International Labour Organization and European Commission. His work has featured in media such as CNN, BBC, and The Wall Street Journal, and he has delivered lectures at the Cambridge Festival and other events.
