Nicole Mauro is an Adjunct Professor and Part-Time Faculty member in the Department of Rhetoric and Language at the University of San Francisco, where she has taught since 1999. She earned her BA in Communications Arts in 1992 and her MAW in fiction in 1996, both from USF. Mauro received her MFA in poetry from Mills College in 1999, after which she began her teaching career at USF. She mainly teaches intermediate and advanced rhetoric, as well as a First Year Seminar course titled Intersection: Sidewalks and Public Space. Mauro loves teaching and believes the educational process to be a dynamic one wherein she learns as much as her students. Her long-term commitment to USF spans over 25 years, contributing to the development of students in rhetoric and related fields through her dedicated instruction.
Mauro has published poetry and scholarly articles in numerous publications. She is the author of six chapbooks and two books of poetry: The Contortions (Dusie, 2009) and Tax-Dollar Super-Sonnet, Featuring Sarah Palin as Poet (Black Radish Books, 2014). She co-edited Intersection: Sidewalks and Public Space (A'A Arts, 2008) and is the founder of Black Radish Books. Her teaching interests include visual rhetoric, street art and graffiti as rhetoric, propaganda as rhetoric, and avant-garde poetry and poetics. These interests shape her courses and reflect her expertise in blending creative writing with rhetorical analysis, enriching the academic environment at the University of San Francisco.
