Dr Nik Asmah Nik Hussain serves as a Senior Lecturer at the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Monash University Malaysia. She earned her medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland, in 1997, followed by the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) from the UK in 2000. After serving as a Cardiology Registrar in Ireland, she joined the University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur as a Lecturer in Medicine and Cardiology in 2002. In April 2006, Dr Nik Asmah became one of the pioneer senior lecturers at Monash University Malaysia. During her early tenure, she spent six weeks at Monash's Clayton campus in Australia to study the medical curriculum and completed a Graduate Certificate in Health Professional Education.
Her academic interests encompass the staged management of hypertension, participation in multi-centre clinical trials, heart failure, and atrial fibrillation. Dr Nik Asmah has made contributions aligned with Sustainable Development Goals including Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3), Quality Education (SDG 4), and Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (SDG 16). As Principal Investigator, she led the NIH-funded "A Study of the Effectiveness of Health Education via Telephone and Short Messaging Services on Ischaemic Heart Disease (IHD) Outcomes: The TEXT to HEALTH Study" in 2008, receiving RM 250,000. She also contributed to the MY DARLLING Study and the Monash Obesity-Diabetes Intervention (MODI) Study, both funded by NIH in 2008. A notable publication is "Influencing factors of glycaemic control in patients attending different types of urban health care setting in Malaysia" (with Ahmad B et al., 2011, Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice, 93(1), 12-14). She is the Primary Chief Investigator for a project developing health care delivery modalities to improve Ischemic Heart Disease outcomes, funded by Malaysia's Ministry of Health. Institutionally, she co-chairs the Year 2 Management Committee and participates in the Theme 4 (Clinical Skills), Assessment, and Evaluation Committees. Since 2012, she has been a Consultant Cardiologist at Sunway Medical Centre.
