Noelle Brown serves as Senior Lecturer of French and French Program Coordinator in the Department of World Languages and Cultures within the Norman J. Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Kennesaw State University. She joined the institution in 2019 as a Lecturer of French, advancing to her current senior role where she oversees the French program, coordinates curriculum, and supports faculty recruitment for part-time and limited-term positions in world languages. Dr. Brown's research specializations encompass women writers in French and Francophone film and literature, parallels between literature and other visual media, and writing as transvestism in 19th-century French women’s literature. Her scholarly work reflects a deep engagement with gender, genre, and cultural intersections in French studies, contributing to the department's emphasis on innovative, interdisciplinary research exploring language, culture, identity, and global narratives.
In the classroom, Dr. Brown delivers dynamic instruction across various levels, including Elementary French II and World Literature I, fulfilling core curriculum requirements with themes of social justice, postcolonialism, mythic monsters, sci-fi films, quests for sacred items like the Holy Grail, and journeys to underworlds. Her asynchronous online sections invite students to explore worldwide stories without travel, fostering global awareness through literature and film. Beyond teaching, she actively enriches campus life by hosting events such as "Allies in Adversity: The UK and France," which delves into French Resistance forms intersecting with Allied Forces in the UK, in collaboration with the KSU French Club as part of the Year of the United Kingdom series. She has also organized workshops like "Prononcer comme un pro!" for pronunciation practice. Dr. Brown presents at academic conferences, including NeMLA 2020 on "Reversing the Narrative: Questions of Gender and Genre in French Films by Guy-Blaché and Pourriat" and SAMLA on provincializing the French literary canon. She holds the position of Treasurer for Women in French and maintains an office in Prillaman Hall Suite 239, contactable at (470) 578-6366. Her leadership promotes French language acquisition, cultural immersion, and interdisciplinary connections at KSU.
