Dr. Oscar Rivera Borroto is a Professor of Mathematics at Lone Star College-CyFair within the Mathematics department. He possesses an extensive academic background, including a Doctor of Philosophy in Interdisciplinary Chemistry with a focus on Simulation of Molecular Processes from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, awarded Cum Laude in 2014, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics from Universidad Central "Marta Abreu" de Las Villas, awarded by Unanimous Vote in 2014. Additionally, he holds a Master of Science in Applied Mathematics from Universidad Central "Marta Abreu" de Las Villas in 2008 and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the same institution in 2003.
Dr. Borroto's career spans multiple institutions and roles. From 2003 to 2015, he served as Professor of General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Chemometrics, and Scientific Information Management at Universidad Central "Marta Abreu" de Las Villas Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science, and Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy. He was also a Senior Research Scientist at the Center for Studies on Informatics, heading the Cheminformatics research line of the Bioinformatics Research Group, and earlier a Junior Research Scientist at the Center for Studies on Applied Chemistry. His research involved QSAR models, molecular indices such as TOMOCOMD-CARDD, and predictions for drug resistance in viruses including Influenza and HIV. Notable awards include the Annual Award of the Cuban Academy of Science in 2011 as scientific collaborator for "New Models to Predict Mutations and Resistance to Drugs of the Viruses Influenza and HIV," and the Provincial Award of CITMA in 2008 as main author for "Combined QSAR, TOMOCOMD-CARD, and chemometric tools to discover new/novel drug candidates against Trichomonas Vaginalis." He held visiting assistant professor positions at Pontifical University Catholic of Ecuador in Esmeraldas in 2015 and Amazon State University in 2015-2016. In Houston, he worked as adjunct instructor at Houston Community College from 2019 to 2022 and San Jacinto College in 2021-2022, before joining Lone Star College-CyFair as Adjunct Mathematics Instructor in 2019 and advancing to Associate Professor in August 2022.
