About Patricia
Conjoint Professor Patricia Crock serves in the School of Medicine and Public Health at the University of Newcastle. She earned her MBBS from the University of Melbourne and holds FRACP and DMed qualifications. Her specialist training occurred at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, and at the Montreal Children’s Hospital and McGill University in Canada. In 1993, she became the inaugural Head of Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes at John Hunter Children’s Hospital, Newcastle, where she functions as both a clinician and clinical researcher, establishing a prominent unit. She also holds the position of Conjoint Clinical Associate Professor at the Hunter Medical Research Institute.
Professor Crock specializes in paediatric endocrinology, with key interests in the diagnosis and management of pituitary disorders including congenital and acquired hypopituitarism and paediatric pituitary tumours, polyglandular endocrine autoimmunity, and endocrine care for adolescents with gender diversity. Her research laboratory develops novel diagnostic assays for autoimmune pituitary disease, and she contributes to international and national collaborations. Notable publications include "Mapping variants in thyroid hormone transporter MCT8 to disease severity by genomic, phenotypic, functional, structural and deep learning integration" (2025), "Long-Term Efficacy of T3 Analogue Triac in Children and Adults With MCT8 Deficiency: A Real-Life Retrospective Cohort Study" (2022), "Growth Hormone Improves Cognitive Function After Experimental Stroke" (2018), and works on sleep-disordered breathing in Prader-Willi syndrome and growth hormone effects on brain plasticity. With 102 publications and over 4,400 citations, her contributions have substantial impact in the field. Awards include ANZSPED Life Membership (2022, first female recipient), Robert Vines Medal for Clinical Excellence in Paediatric Endocrinology (2018), and her team’s 2019 NSW Health Awards win. She was President of APEG/ANZSPED from 2003 to 2005 and has held various society committee roles.
