Dr. Patricia Koromvokis is a Senior Lecturer in Global Cultures and Languages in the School of International Studies, Faculty of Arts at Macquarie University. She earned her PhD in Psycholinguistics from Macquarie University in 2017, with a thesis titled 'The role of gender-marked information in second language processing,' receiving the Vice-Chancellor’s Commendation for Academic Excellence. Her earlier qualifications include an MA in Linguistics specializing in Teaching Greek as a Second Language from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 2007 and a BA in Classical Greek Studies from the same institution in 2003. Koromvokis began her academic career at Macquarie as a casual tutor in the Departments of Ancient History and International Studies from 2013 to 2018, advanced to Lecturer in the Department of International Studies in 2019, and took on her current role as Senior Lecturer. She serves as Course Director of the Bachelor of International Studies and Head of one of the largest global examination centres for the Certificate of Attainment in Greek. Additionally, she holds positions such as Registered Educator at the Lifelong Learning Center of the University of Western Macedonia and Member of the Advisory Board for the Postgraduate Master Program in Intercultural Modern Greek Language Teaching.
Her research focuses on applied linguistics, second language acquisition, transcultural communication, and innovative teaching strategies incorporating AI tools. Key projects include 'Learn Greek for Better Communication in Aged Care sector during the pandemic COVID-19,' funded by Multicultural NSW, and collaborations with aged care facilities to enhance cultural competency among carers. Notable publications encompass 'Adapting metalanguage assessment practices to foster critical thinking in language learning in the AI era' (2024), 'Embracing bilingualism in aged care: enhancing Greek-Australian cultural competency among carers' (2024), 'Processing grammar to SLA: the example of Greek grammatical gender' (2021), and chapters on metalanguage in Greek as a second language teaching amid AI advancements (2025). Koromvokis has been recognized with the Honorary Plaque from the University of Ioannina (2022), shortlisted as a finalist in the Greek International Women Awards in Education & Psychology (2023), and nominated for the Students’ Choice Award for Outstanding Contributions to Education (2025). She organizes international conferences, serves on scientific committees, and engages in community outreach through Greek cultural events and media contributions.
