About Prasad

Dr. Prasad Chunduri serves as a Senior Lecturer in the School of Biomedical Sciences within the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences at the University of Queensland. He obtained his Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Queensland in 2008, focusing his doctoral research on oxidative stress and cardiovascular remodelling in rats treated with antioxidants. His academic career at the University of Queensland encompasses both biomedical research and the scholarship of teaching and learning. Early research contributions addressed cardiovascular changes in hypertensive rats, the role of neuropeptides in myocardial remodelling and heart failure, and mechanisms of ischemic brain injury, including the exacerbating effect of the EphA2 receptor and inflammasome activation via NF-κB and MAPK signaling pathways. Chunduri has explored intravenous immunoglobulin's suppression of neuronal death in stroke models and intermittent fasting's attenuation of inflammasome activity post-ischemia. Transitioning towards educational innovation, his recent work utilizes learning analytics to redesign first-year physiology courses, enhancing student performance through targeted interventions, metacognitive exercises based on the SOLO taxonomy, and exemplars for short-answer questions.

Chunduri has co-authored over 47 scholarly outputs since 2008, spanning journal articles, conference papers, books, and chapters. Notable publications include the 12th edition of Campbell biology: Australian and New Zealand version (2022, Pearson) with Lisa A. Urry, Michael L. Cain, and Lesley Lluka; the book chapter 'Relaxin/serelaxin for cardiac dysfunction and heart failure in hypertension' (2022, Academic Press); 'Melatonin’s role in the timing of sleep onset is conserved in nocturnal mice' (2024, npj Biological Timing and Sleep); 'SOLO-based task to improve self-evaluation and capacity to integrate concepts in first-year physiology students' (2019, Advances in Physiology Education); 'Changes in biology self-efficacy during a first-year university course' (2016, CBE—Life Sciences Education); and 'The role of neuropeptides in adverse myocardial remodeling and heart failure' (2017, Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences). He teaches large first-year cohorts in physiology and biology, implementing inquiry-based practicals, grading matrices aligned to threshold learning outcomes, and student-partnered curriculum designs. Chunduri is available for higher degree research supervision.
