Rachel Kyte is Dean Emerita of The Fletcher School at Tufts University, where she served as the 14th dean and the first woman to lead the institution from October 2019 to June 2023. A 2002 graduate of the Fletcher School’s Global Master of Arts Program, she previously held the position of professor of practice at the school. Kyte earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and politics from the University of London and a Master of Arts degree in international relations from the Fletcher School.
Throughout her career, Kyte has focused on international climate, energy, and development policy. She served as Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General and Chief Executive Officer of Sustainable Energy for All, leading efforts to advance universal access to modern energy services, improve energy efficiency, and increase the share of renewable energy. Prior to that, she was World Bank Group Vice President and Special Envoy for Climate Change, as well as Vice President for Sustainable Development at the World Bank and Vice President for Business Advisory Services at the International Finance Corporation. Kyte is currently Professor of Practice in Climate Policy at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford, and was appointed UK Special Representative for Climate in October 2024. In 2020, she was appointed Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George for services to energy and combating climate change. During her deanship at Fletcher, the school introduced the Master of Global Affairs degree.
