About Rebecca

Rebecca Jarden is an Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Nursing within the Melbourne School of Health Sciences at the University of Melbourne, part of the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences. She holds roles as Graduate Research Coordinator and member of the Senior Leadership Team, and is also an Honorary Principal Fellow. Jarden possesses extensive clinical experience in critical care nursing, specializing in cardio-thoracic and tertiary intensive care units at Wellington Regional Hospital, where she served in positions such as associate charge nurse manager and flight retrieval nurse. Her academic career began in 2014 as a nurse lecturer at Auckland University of Technology, followed by her appointment at the University of Melbourne. She earned a Bachelor of Health Science in Nursing and a Certificate in Tertiary Teaching from AUT University, a Master of Nursing from Victoria University of Wellington, a PhD from AUT University focused on conceptualising intensive care nurse work wellbeing through mixed methods research, and a BA with Diploma Graduate in Psychology and Anthropology from the University of Otago. Registered as a nurse in both New Zealand and Australia, she concurrently serves as a Senior Nursing Research Fellow at Austin Health and Associate Professor of Nursing at Edith Cowan University.

Jarden's research interests encompass critical care nursing, nurse wellbeing, resilience, psychological well-being particularly for early-career and graduate nurses, clinical supervision, workplace motivation and engagement, positive leadership, and healthcare quality improvement. Notable publications include 'Avoid Early Rejection When Preparing a Systematic Review: A Pragmatic Guide' (2025, Journal of Advanced Nursing), 'Measures of graduate entry nursing student program experiences: A scoping review' (2025, Teaching and Learning in Nursing), 'Community-based health programme for nurses and midwives: A mixed methods evaluation' (2024, Journal of Advanced Nursing), 'Nurses' well-being during the coronavirus (2019) pandemic: A longitudinal mixed-methods study' (2022), 'Clinical supervision and resilience in nurses: A scoping review' (2024), and 'New graduate nurse wellbeing, work wellbeing and mental health' (2021). Her work contributes to program evaluations in nursing leadership, clinical supervision, and health initiatives, advancing understanding of positive organisational practices in healthcare settings.
