Great Professor!
Regina Lee is a Professor in Nursing and Honorary Professor in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Newcastle, Faculty of Health and Medicine. She holds a PhD in Nursing from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, a Master of Science in Community Health Nursing from D’Youville College, New York, United States, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Alberta, Canada. Registered to practice nursing in Alberta and Ontario (Canada), New South Wales (Australia), and Hong Kong, she has clinical experience in neonatal intensive care units, pediatrics, school health, and public health in Canada and Hong Kong. From 1998 to 2017, she served as Associate Professor in the School of Nursing at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students in child and adolescent health nursing, delivering lectures, tutorials, laboratory practice, and supervising the development and implementation of school-based health programs for primary students to promote healthy lifestyles and psychosocial wellbeing.
Professor Lee's research centers on child and adolescent health and development, with specializations in school health nursing, role development of school nurses, health promotion for children and adolescents including those with disabilities, mHealth interventions for weight management in overweight children and adolescents with disabilities, simplified hand washing programs, unstructured free play combined with mindfulness-based interventions to enhance physical, social, and emotional wellbeing, and promoting healthy lifestyle behaviors and psychosocial wellbeing using the WHO health-promoting schools framework. She is the founder and President of the Hong Kong School Nurses Association, Vice President and Chair of the Examination Sub-Committee for the Hong Kong College of Paediatric Nursing, and convener of the Asia Pacific Child and Adolescent Health Research Network at the University of Newcastle. She collaborates with WHO and regional experts on adolescent health-related quality of life and addresses health needs of schoolchildren with developmental disabilities. Notable awards include Honorary Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (2019), School Nurse Award (2017, Hong Kong School Nurses Association), and multiple best oral and poster presentation awards at international conferences such as the 1st Prize Best Oral Presentation at the Joint Annual Scientific Meeting of the Hong Kong Paediatric Society & Hong Kong Paediatric Nurses Association (2013). Key publications include 'WhatsApp-based intervention for people with type 2 diabetes: A randomized controlled trial' (2024), 'People with type 2 diabetes experiences of using WhatsApp-based diabetes self-management education and support: The process evaluation' (2024), 'Challenges, coping and resilience in caring for children with disability among immigrant parents: A mixed methods study' (2022), and 'Association between time spent on smartphones and digital eye strain: A 1-year prospective observational study among Hong Kong children and adolescents' (2023). She has supervised 17 completed higher degree research students and secured grants including from the Research Grants Council.
