Remco Bouckaert is a Senior Research Fellow in the School of Computer Science at the University of Auckland, affiliated with the Centre for Computational Evolution in the Faculty of Science. He obtained his PhD in computer science from Utrecht University in the Netherlands, with a focus on Bayesian networks. Prior to his current role, he contributed to the development of WEKA, a machine learning workbench, while at the University of Waikato.
Bouckaert specializes in Bayesian methods and phylogenetics. He is a key developer of the BEAST2 software platform for Bayesian evolutionary analysis and co-authored the book Bayesian Evolutionary Analysis with BEAST, published by Cambridge University Press in 2015 with Alexei J. Drummond. His research encompasses computational geographic phylogenetics, including applications to language data such as the origins and expansion of language families. Bouckaert maintains an active profile in these areas, with his work cited over 25,000 times according to Google Scholar. He holds the position of Senior Research Fellow and can be contacted at the University of Auckland.
