Dr. Remy Davison is a Senior Lecturer in Politics and International Relations in the School of Social Sciences at Monash University’s Faculty of Arts. He earned a PhD in Commerce from the University of Melbourne in 1999, becoming Australia’s first PhD graduate in European Union studies, and a Combined Honours degree from Monash University. His academic career encompasses roles as Senior Lecturer in Government at the University of Tasmania, Director of the Strategic Studies programme and Lecturer in International Relations at La Trobe University, Lecturer in European Politics in the Department of Political Science at the University of Melbourne, and Lecturer in International Business at Griffith University. Davison returned to Monash University in 2006, where he served as Acting Director and Associate Director of the Monash European and EU Centre. He holds the Jean Monnet Chair in Politics and Economics awarded by the European Commission from 2012 to 2015 and was appointed a UN Global Expert in 2010. His honors include Dean’s Commendations for Teaching Excellence in 2009 and 2010, and a University Award for Teaching Excellence in 2005.
Davison’s research focuses on European integration and taxation, the European Union, international political economy, and foreign policy analysis, with recent emphasis on Indo-Pacific security dynamics. Notable publications include “Future tense: AUKUS’s security transformation” in Australian Naval Review (2024), “Global Canberra: Leveraging Australia's strategic partnerships” in Australian Politics at a Crossroads (Routledge, 2024), “Containing the dragon: the European pivot to the Indo-Pacific” in Strategies in Changing Global Orders (Springer, 2023), “US regional economic policy in the Indo-Pacific” in The Routledge Handbook of US Foreign Policy in the Indo-Pacific (2023), and the edited volume Australia and Korea: Building a Secure and Prosperous Asia (Monash University, 2022). He co-edited The New Global Politics of the Asia-Pacific: Conflict and Cooperation in the Asian Century (2018). Davison has been Visiting Professor at the Robert Schuman Centre, European University Institute (2015), and Visiting Senior Fellow at the National Europe Centre, Australian National University (2008-2010). He provides confidential briefings to diplomats and parliamentary inquiries, keynoted the 2018 Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat conference in Beijing, and contributes to the Council on Optimizing Government Performance since 2011. He teaches courses including Advanced Seminar in International Political Economy, Foreign Policies of the Great and Emerging Powers, and Introduction to International Relations.
