Richard Pucci is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Accounting in the Faculty of Business and Economics at Monash University. He joined the university in 2017 after completing his PhD in accounting at Copenhagen Business School. His doctoral thesis investigated controversies in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in the wake of the global financial crisis. Pucci also holds a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification from the Institute of Management Accountants.
His research interests encompass the social and organizational aspects of accounting. Currently, his work emphasizes the standardization and operationalization of accounting practices in both for-profit and not-for-profit contexts. Accounting standard-setting represents a key area of his expertise. Pucci has authored or co-authored several papers in prestigious accounting journals. Among his notable publications are: "The co-performation of financial economics in accounting standard-setting: a study of the translation of the expected credit loss model in IFRS 9" with Peter Skærbæk, published in Accounting, Organizations and Society in 2020; "The production of value opinions by specialized valuers: practical sense and the enactment of judgment" with Maude Plante and Sarah Maire, in Contemporary Accounting Research in 2022; "The disparate roles of accounting in an amateur sports organisation: the case of logic assimilation in the Gaelic Athletic Association" with Christopher Clune and Roel Boomsma, in Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal in 2019; "This is not an experiment: using vignettes in qualitative accounting research," co-authored with Leona Wiegmann and others, in Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal in 2025; and "Doxic sunglasses: A response to 'Green accounting and Green Eyeshades: Twenty years later'" with Crawford Spence and Nihad Chabrak, in Critical Perspectives on Accounting in 2013. In addition to his research, Pucci serves as the HDR Milestone Coordinator in the Department of Accounting. He teaches units such as ACF3100 Advanced Financial Accounting at the Caulfield campus. His contributions extend to presentations at events like the AASB Research Forum in 2019 and visits to institutions such as the University of Passau.
