Dr. Rob Sleezer serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Integrated Engineering at Minnesota State University, Mankato, where he is a faculty member at Twin Cities Engineering located in Bloomington, Minnesota. His professional career at the institution focuses on delivering education in project-based engineering curricula. Sleezer obtained his PhD in Microelectronics-Photonics from the University of Arkansas. Prior to that, he completed his BS in Computer Science, BS in Electrical Engineering, and MS in Electrical Engineering at Oklahoma State University.
Sleezer's academic interests and research specializations span nanoscale ferroelectric thin film transmission lines, scanning probe microscopy, and particularly engineering education within project-based learning environments. He has made notable contributions through peer-reviewed publications and conference papers. Among his key works are "Adhesive force between graphene nanoscale flakes and living biological cells" published in the Journal of Applied Toxicology in 2017, "Band Offsets of the MOCVD-Grown β-(Al0.21Ga0.79)2O3/β-Ga2O3 (010) Heterojunction" in ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces in 2022, "Using failure to teach design" presented at the 2016 ASEE Annual Conference & Exposition, "Ethical development through the use of fiction in a project-based engineering program" at the 2020 ASEE Virtual Annual Conference, "A Self-Study of Faculty Methods, Attitudes, and Perceptions of Oral Engineering Exams" at the 2023 ASEE Annual Conference & Exposition, "An Integrated Engineering Model for Advising" in 2022, and "On Teaching Signals & Systems in a Project-Based Learning Environment" at the 2018 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing. These publications reflect his dual expertise in advanced materials and innovative teaching methodologies.
In addition to his scholarly output, Sleezer has been honored with the 2020 Board of Trustees Award for Outstanding Educator from the Minnesota State system and a 2018 Certificate of Merit for the Outstanding Advising Award - Faculty Academic Advising from NACADA. He also holds a role on the Undergraduate Curriculum and Academic Policy committee for the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology, contributing to academic governance and curriculum enhancement at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
