Dr Robert Doe serves as a Lecturer in Architecture within the School of Architecture and Built Environment, College of Creative Arts, Design and Humanities at Adelaide University. In his architectural practice, teaching, and research, Dr Doe has pursued methods and technologies that improve interaction between participants engaged in the design and production of buildings. In practice, he has led integrated project teams on complex urban residential projects and co-directed a company that manufactured prefabricated components and modules. In teaching and research, he has focused on computational design methods that improve building lifecycles from conceptual to design development and operational stages. He believes new thinking is required to resolve management and technological issues challenging the design and making of smart buildings in the Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Operations (AECO) sector. He is a member of the UniSA Australia Research Centre for Interactive and Virtual Environments (IVE) and is eligible to supervise Masters and PhD students.
Dr Doe's research specializations include interoperability in the AECO sector, offsite construction, and modular formats for prefabricated homes. His key publications include Doe, R., Kaur, K., Selway, M., & Stumptner, M. (2026). A CDE ecosystem for the Architecture, Engineering & Construction (AECO) sector. Journal of Information Technology in Construction, 31. Maheshwari, S., Ochoa, J. J., Gu, N., Rameezdeen, R., Mayer, W., & Doe, R. M. (2025). Improving information sharing in Offsite Construction (OSC): a systematic literature review. Buildings, 15(5), 1-20. Doe, R., Kaur, K., Selway, M., & Stumptner, M. (2024). Ecosystem interoperability for the architecture, engineering, construction & operations (AECO) sector. Journal of Information Technology in Construction, 29, 347-376. Doe, R., Kaur, K., Selway, M., & Stumptner, M. (2022). Interoperability in AECO and the oil & gas sectors: object-based standards and systems.
