Rodrigo Leão de Moura is an Associate Professor at the Instituto de Biologia of the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). He also holds an associate researcher position at the Núcleo Rogério Valle de Produção Sustentável (SAGE/COPPE) and is a member of the permanent faculty of the Graduate Program in Ecology at UFRJ. He earned his M.S. in Biological Studies (Zoology) from the Universidade de São Paulo (USP) in 1998 and his Ph.D. in Biological Studies (Zoology) from USP in 2003. Prior to joining UFRJ in 2011, he worked for nearly a decade with Conservation International, where he led the Brazil Node of the Marine Management Areas Science Program and managed their field station in Abrolhos. He previously served as a Visiting Professor at the Universidade Estadual de Santa Cruz (UESC).
His research focuses on marine biology, with emphasis on reef fish communities, marine biodiversity assessment and monitoring, conservation and management of marine resources, community ecology, and mitigation of environmental impacts. He coordinates the Laboratório de Avaliação e Monitoramento da Biodiversidade. Moura is a CNPq productivity scholar and was awarded the Jovem Cientista do Estado by FAPERJ. He is a member of the Abrolhos Network and engages in extension and applied research projects on marine resource management.
