Dr S N Phaleng is a researcher and PhD student in the Department of Surgery at the Nelson R Mandela School of Medicine, University of KwaZulu-Natal. He obtained his MBChB from Medunsa in 2001 and his FCS(SA) from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa in 2015. His work centres on trauma-related topics, including epidemiological characteristics of major trauma in Limpopo province hospitals, shock index as a predictor of mortality in rural settings, emergency medical services in Limpopo, and the economic burden of traumatic brain injury.
Phaleng has co-authored several peer-reviewed publications on these subjects, often in collaboration with researchers such as T C Hardcastle. He maintains affiliations with the University of KwaZulu-Natal while also practising as a general surgeon.
