Dr. Sabrina Syed serves as an Honorary Lecturer in the School of Education within the College of Human and Social Futures at the University of Newcastle, Australia. She earned her Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Newcastle in 2022, Bachelor of Education (Honours), and Master of Education from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. A qualified secondary teacher in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, she has over a decade of academic experience, including lecturing at BRAC University Teaching and Learning Centre in Dhaka from 2012 to 2017, teaching at TAFE NSW from 2021 to 2023, and serving as a Research Assistant at the Teachers and Teaching Research Centre from 2018 to 2020. At the University of Newcastle, her roles include Sessional Academic Staff from 2020 to 2024, Post-Doctoral Researcher from 2023 to 2024, and Course Coordinator for EDUC6010 Advanced Studies in Education in 2024. She currently holds a lecturing position at Charles Sturt University School of Education since 2025. Her teaching responsibilities at the University of Newcastle encompass courses such as EDUC2102 Educational Psychology, EDUC1103 Schooling, Identity and Society, and EDUC6010 Advanced Studies in Education.
Dr. Syed's research specializations include educational psychology, higher education, identity development, intersectionality, professional identity, and teacher professional development, with fields of research in sociology of education (30%), professional education and training (40%), and teacher education and professional development of educators (30%). Her PhD thesis, 'Exploring international female doctoral students' narratives through the lenses of intersectionality and feminist standpoint theory' (2022), focuses on women's experiences in higher education. Notable publications comprise 'An alternative method for qualitative data collection in narrative inquiry' (International Journal of Research and Method in Education, 2026), 'Secondary Mathematics Teachers’ Professional Identity: Systematic Literature Review' (Mathematics Teacher Education and Development, 2026), 'A review of the Australian honours student experience: a new framework for understanding research supervision' (Cogent Education, 2025, co-authored with K.
