Sandra Spence serves as a Liaison Officer in the Schools' Liaison Office at the University of Otago, based in Dunedin. She engages with secondary schools across Otago, Southland, Dunedin, Mid and South Canterbury, and Christchurch, supporting Year 13 students through course planning sessions, degree structure advice, and presentations on university life. Sandra Spence contributes to student recruitment efforts by visiting schools, delivering talks on the University of Otago, and helping prospective students understand academic pathways and campus experiences. Her work emphasizes building connections and fostering a sense of belonging, particularly for local students transitioning to higher education. In 2013, she co-presented at the First Year in Higher Education Conference on 'Otago Locals – fostering a sense of belonging: A Nuts and Bolts Session' with Dr Stephen Scott, Dr Angela McLean, Carole Scott, and Hayley Horwood from the University of Otago.
