Sara Subhan is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Psychology within the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences at Monash University Malaysia. She earned her BS in Applied Psychology in 2009, an MS in Clinical Psychology in 2011 from Government College University Lahore, Pakistan, and a PhD in Clinical Psychology in 2019 from the University of Management and Technology, Lahore, Pakistan, with a focus on mental toughness, the efficacy of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, and psychosocial issues in athletes. Her professional career began as a Lecturer at Government College University Lahore in 2011, followed by a Visiting Lecturer position at Government College University Faisalabad from 2011 to 2012. She then served as Lecturer from 2012 to 2015 and Assistant Professor from 2015 to 2023 at the University of Management and Technology, Lahore, before assuming her current role at Monash University Malaysia in July 2023.
Subhan's teaching encompasses postgraduate training in psychological assessment, psychological interventions and psychotherapy, clinical report writing in adult psychopathology, school psychology, and research methods. Her research addresses psychosocial issues through attachment theory, grief therapy, trauma-related concerns, interpersonal dynamics, mental toughness in sports, and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy efficacy. She has supported special and marginalized groups in Pakistan and developed therapeutic manuals for pediatric cancer patients, mainstream school children, university students, and individuals experiencing loss and grief. Notable publications include "Family Communication, Cognitive Distortion, and Emotion Regulation as Predictors of Self-Harm Behaviors in Young Adults of Pakistan: A Serial Mediation Analysis" (2025, The Family Journal), "A Phenomenological Understanding of Psychosocial Determinants and Reactions to the Piri-Muridi Relationship Among Early Adults" (2024, Pastoral Psychology), "Serial mediation of ADHD symptoms and self-criticism between dysfunctional attitudes and mental health problems in Pakistani University students" (2024, Cogent Education), "The development of a bullying victimisation scale: the experience of Pakistani adolescents" (2024, Educational Psychology in Practice), "Mediating role of emotion disclosure between emotion regulation and apprehension in healthcare professionals during COVID-19" (2023, Khyber Medical University Journal), and "Experience of Death-Related Trauma in Women: An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis" (2022, Journal of Professional & Applied Psychology). As Chief Investigator, she leads projects like "Toward Evidence-Based Guidelines: The Role of Psychological Flexibility in Mitigating Moral Injury and Secondary Traumatic Stress Among Malaysian Doctors" (2026-2028). Her work aligns with UN SDGs 3 and 5.
