About Satoshi

Satoshi Kasahara is an Associate Professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Science at the School of Science, The University of Tokyo. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo in 2009. His research focuses on planetary science, with an emphasis on the development of particle instruments for spacecraft planetary missions. Kasahara has contributed to the design and development of instruments including the Medium-Energy Particle Experiments – electron analyzer (MEP-e) and ion analyzer (MEP-i) for the Arase satellite mission. In 2018, a paper he led on pulsating aurora from electron scattering by chorus waves was published in Nature and selected as an Editor's Choice. He received the ISEE Award in 2022 for his outstanding contribution to space-earth environmental research. Kasahara previously held positions including project researcher at the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency and assistant professor at the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science. His work involves charged particle measurements and planetary magnetospheric dynamics, supporting investigations into radiation environments around planets, atmospheric escape, and solar system formation processes.
