Great Professor!
Scott Burns is a former research student affiliated with the School of Health Sciences in the College of Health, Medicine and Wellbeing at the University of Newcastle. He completed his Doctor of Philosophy in 2022 with a thesis by publication titled Physical Therapy Interventions Directed at the Hips for Individuals with a Primary Complaint of Low Back Pain. The research was supervised by Suzanne Snodgrass from the Discipline of Physiotherapy at the University of Newcastle, Joshua Cleland from Temple University, and Darren A. Rivett from the University of Newcastle. His doctoral work focused on the role of hip impairments in individuals with low back pain and the effectiveness of physical therapy interventions targeting both the low back and hips.
Key publications from his PhD research include Burns SA, Cleland JA, Rivett DA, Snodgrass SJ. Effectiveness of physical therapy interventions for low back pain targeting the low back only or low back plus hips: a randomized controlled trial protocol, published in the Journal of Manual & Manipulative Therapy in 2018. Another publication is Burns SA, Snodgrass SJ, Cleland JA, et al. Examination procedures and interventions for the hip in the presence of low back pain, published in Musculoskeletal Science and Practice in 2019. Additionally, Burns SA, Snodgrass SJ, Cleland JA, et al. When Treating Coexisting Low Back Pain and Hip Impairments Within a Single Session of Physical Therapy: A Randomized Clinical Trial appeared in the Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy in 2021. These works contribute to understanding treatment strategies for co-morbid low back and hip conditions in clinical physiotherapy practice. His contact at the University of Newcastle is listed as a research student profile.
