Seiko Matsuo is a Hospital Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Nagoya University Hospital. She earned her medical degree from Nagoya University Faculty of Medicine in 2012 and received her PhD in Medicine from Nagoya University in March 2024. Her research focuses on extracellular vesicles, preeclampsia, and in vitro fertilization, with key contributions including a 2026 study in Science Advances identifying LIMCH1-enriched extracellular vesicles as promoters of vascular permeability in early-onset preeclampsia. Matsuo has authored or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed papers on topics such as hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, antenatal magnesium sulfate effects, and gestational diabetes prediction, published in journals including Pregnancy Hypertension, Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Research, and Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics.
She is a member of the Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Japan Society of Perinatal and Neonatal Medicine, Japan Society for Reproductive Medicine, Japan Society of Genetic Counseling, Japan Society for the Study of Hypertension in Pregnancy, and Japan Placenta Society. Matsuo has received several honors, including the Soma Prize from the Japan Placenta Society in 2024, the FAOPS2023 Best Congress Award, and the Academic Encouragement Award from the Japan Society for the Study of Hypertension in Pregnancy in 2023. Her work contributes to advancing understanding of pregnancy complications and related mechanisms at Nagoya University.
