Shani Barrax Moore served as Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer and District Director of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion at Tarrant County College District Office from June 2012 to February 2016. In her role within Education, she led districtwide efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, delivering presentations such as a slideshow on diversity survey results at Southeast Campus in October 2013. The presentation addressed high incidences of offensive language related to linguistic heritage, cultural expression, and race, distinguishing between ignorance and obliviousness in biased behaviors. Moore advocated for bias awareness as the foundation of diversity work, rejected colorblindness as a form of oppression, and supported the establishment of Diversity and Inclusion Councils across TCC's five campuses to meet diverse student needs. She facilitated workshops and seminars on inclusion, police brutality discussions, and offensive language policies.
Recognized with the Tarrant County College Chancellor’s Employee Excellence Award for Access and Diversity in 2014, Barrax Moore holds a Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in public relations from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a minor in French, along with a Master of Business Administration concentrating in marketing and human resources. Her higher education career includes positions as academic advisor, administrator, and adjunct instructor in business, leadership, and social work. At the University of North Texas, she advanced to Assistant Vice President of Institutional Equity and Diversity, creating the international Coursera course Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access Essentials, managing climate surveys, and expanding the Equity and Diversity Conference through corporate partnerships. Publications include her editing and contributions to Diversity Work in Independent Schools: The Practice and the Practitioner (NAIS, 2013), co-authoring a chapter with Barbara Bush in Multicultural and Diversity Issues in Student Affairs Practice: A Professional Competency-Based Approach (2019), and contributing to Quantum Realities: Educational Truth-telling in an Era of Alternative Facts.
