Shenglin Ben is a Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at Zhejiang University, serving as the Founding Dean of the International Business School (ZIBS) and the Academy of Internet Finance (AIF). He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Purdue University (1994), a Master’s in Management from Renmin University of China (1990), and a Bachelor’s in Engineering from Tsinghua University (1987). Prior to academia, he amassed over 20 years in international banking, including roles as China CEO of JP Morgan Chase Bank (2010–2014), China Director and General Manager of Industrial and Commercial Financial Business at HSBC Bank (2005–2010), and Senior Vice President and China General Manager of Working Capital Business at ABN AMRO (1994–2005). At Zhejiang University, he joined in 2014, initially as Director of the EMBA Program Office at the School of Management. Ben is also President of the Beijing Frontier Institute of Regulation and Supervision Technology (FIRST), founder and Director of the International Monetary Institute at Renmin University of China, founder and Chairman of the Zhejiang Association of FinTech (ZAFT), Executive Vice President of the Zhejiang Western Returned Scholars Association, Counselor to the Zhejiang Provincial Government, and a Standing Committee member of CPPCC Zhejiang and Vice Chairman of its Economic Commission. He serves on the Global Strategic Advisory Board of Krannert School of Management at Purdue University and is a National Executive Committee member of the All China Federation of Industry & Commerce.
His research specializes in International Finance, FinTech, Digital Economy, and Global Business. Key publications include journal articles such as 'Effect of consumers’ online shopping on their investment in money market funds on ecommerce platforms' (2021), 'How Individual Investors React to Negative Events in the FinTech Era? Evidence from China’s Peer-to-Peer Lending Market' (2021), and books like 'China FinTech Operation Report (2019)' and 'In Pursuit of Presence or Prominence: The Prospect of Chinese Bank's Global Expansion and Their Benchmarks' (2017–2019). He has secured research grants on topics including FinTech regulatory sandboxes and online loan risks. Ben teaches courses on Modern Financial Markets, Financial Technology Regulation, and Global FinTech Trends; his course International Financial Management was rated a provincial first-class course in 2020 by Zhejiang Province. As a PhD supervisor in Management Economics, he guides research in International Finance and FinTech.
