Shilpa Lakhanpal is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at California State University, Fullerton, where she joined the Department of Computer Science in the College of Engineering and Computer Science in 2019. She holds a B.Sc. and M.C.A. from the University of Delhi, India, as well as an M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from Western Michigan University. During her undergraduate studies, Lakhanpal developed a fascination for computer science through diverse coursework, recognizing its potential to address a wide array of problems, which motivated her pursuit of advanced degrees in the field.
Lakhanpal's academic interests and research specializations center on data mining, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and natural language processing. Her scholarly contributions include the 2023 publication "Leveraging Explainable AI to Analyze Researchers' Aspect-Based Sentiment about ChatGPT," co-authored with Ajay Gupta and Rajeev Agrawal. Earlier publications from her research at Western Michigan University feature "Discover trending domains using fusion of supervised machine learning with natural language processing" (2015), "Towards Extracting Domains from Research Publications" (2015), "On discovering most frequent research trends in a scientific discipline using a text mining technique" (2014), and "Mining Domain Similarity to Enhance Digital Indexing" (2017). At California State University, Fullerton, she actively teaches courses including CPSC 131, CPSC 351, and contributes to the program's growth by mentoring students and delivering clear instruction.
