Great Professor!
Shumank Deep completed his Doctor of Philosophy in Building from the University of Newcastle, Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment, where he was enrolled as a research student and served as a casual academic in the School of Architecture and Built Environment from 2017 to 2020. His doctoral research, supervised by Thayaparan Gajendran and Marcus Jefferies, culminated in the thesis titled 'Influence of 'power' and 'dependence' attributes on main contractor and sub-contractor collaboration in construction projects.' This work examined the dynamics of power and dependence in construction collaborations, contributing empirical insights into main contractor-subcontractor relationships through structured data analysis and literature reviews.
Deep's academic interests center on construction project management, procurement and delivery strategies, and factors influencing collaboration among project participants. He has authored several peer-reviewed publications during and following his time at Newcastle, including 'A systematic review of ‘enablers of collaboration’ among the participants in construction projects' (International Journal of Construction Management, 2021; 125 citations), 'Critical Factors Influencing the Performance of Highway Projects: An Empirical Evaluation' (Buildings, 2022; 112 citations), 'Factors influencing power and dependence for collaboration among construction project participants' (Journal of Legal Affairs and Dispute Resolution in Engineering and Construction, 2020; 36 citations), 'A review of contract awards to lowest bidder in Indian construction projects via case based approach' (Open Journal of Business and Management, 2017; 35 citations), and 'Identifying the risk factors in real estate construction projects: An analytical study to propose a control structure for decision-making' (Journal of Financial Management of Property and Construction, 2022; 32 citations). With over 735 citations on Google Scholar, his research demonstrates impact in advancing understanding of project-based relationships and performance factors in the construction industry. Deep progressed to a lectureship at Queen's University Belfast's School of Natural and Built Environment, where he continues exploring subcontractor-contractor dynamics and Construction 4.0 technologies. He received the Australia Awards Fellowship and engages in editorial activities for Scientific Reports.
