About Stephen

Stephen J. Crocker is an Associate Professor of Neuroscience at UConn Health, University of Connecticut School of Medicine, where he also serves as Director of the Neuroscience Graduate Program and Co-Associate Director of the Neuroscience Area of Concentration in the Biomedical Science Ph.D. program. His academic background includes a BSc in Biology from the University of King's College, a PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Ottawa, and postdoctoral training in neurodegeneration at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, as well as in neuropharmacology and immunology at The Scripps Research Institute. He has held additional postdoctoral fellowships supported by the Ontario Neurotrauma Foundation and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Dr. Crocker's research focuses on glial biology and its roles in immunity, myelin physiology, and demyelinating diseases, including multiple sclerosis and globoid cell leukodystrophy (Krabbe disease), with studies utilizing induced pluripotent stem cells, extracellular vesicles, and models of cellular senescence. He has received the Osborn Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching in Biomedical Science from UConn Health, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Career Transition Award, and other honors including the International Outstanding Young Investigator Award from the ICCP. Dr. Crocker has served on numerous committees, including as chair of NIH and Department of Defense study sections related to multiple sclerosis and glia, chair of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee at UConn Health, and as associate editor for the Journal of Neuroscience Research. He maintains active roles in professional organizations such as the Society for Neuroscience and the American Society of Neurochemistry.
