Steven Walker is a Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor in Experiential Development and Graduate Education within the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at Monash University. An experienced clinical pharmacist turned pharmacy educator and researcher, he earned his Bachelor of Pharmacy with Honours (BPharm Hons) in 2010 and Master of Clinical Pharmacy (MClinPharm) in 2019 from the same faculty. He is currently undertaking a Doctorate by Research in Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Education. Walker's research specializations include therapeutic reasoning models for pharmacy students, interprofessional education, competency-based education, work-integrated learning approaches, and practice-based topics such as pharmacy scope of practice, antibiotic allergies, timely febrile neutropenia treatment, and pharmacist-led vaccination. His education research has contributed models of therapeutic reasoning and innovations in teaching practices.
In his career, Walker serves as Director of Experiential Development and Graduate Education (EDGE) since 2023 and Intern Programs Manager. He previously led undergraduate material development, unit coordination in the Vertically Integrated Masters program, and workforce development at Alfred Health Pharmacy Department. His educational innovations earned Monash Student Association Faculty Teaching Excellence Awards (2019, 2020), Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning (2022), Faculty Award for Programs that Enhance Learning (2022, shared), and Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence (2022). Walker influences work-integrated programs via collaborations with the Australian Pharmacy Council on preceptor training for Workplace Based Assessment and the Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia on Education Pharmacist Advanced Training Residency resources. Key publications include "Exploring an Introduction to Electronic Medical Record–Based Assessment of Medication Orders Among Novice Student Pharmacists" (2025), "Comparing the experiences of community and hospital pharmacy learners completing a pre-registrant research training program" (2024), "Teaching digital interprofessional collaboration" (2024), and "Using Politeness Theory to Deconstruct How Preregistrant Pharmacists Approach Disagreement in the Workplace" (2024). He leads EDGE microcredentials in Medication Management Review (2024) and Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (2024), plus intern vaccination programs with the Victorian Government, advancing pharmacists' roles in vaccination, aged care, and prescribing.
