Dr. Stevie-Jae Hepburn is a Lecturer in initial teacher education and Director of Professional Experience in the School of Education at the University of Queensland. She holds a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) from Queensland University of Technology, a Master of Education (Leadership, coursework) from the University of Queensland, a Master of Education (Leadership, research) from the University of Queensland, and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Queensland, awarded in 2020. Her PhD thesis, "Integrated wellbeing for teachers: a mixed-methods study investigating attention awareness, perceived stress and subjective wellbeing and a complementary intervention for pre-service and early career teachers," explored the effects of integrated wellbeing approaches on pre-service and early career educators. Before her academic career, Hepburn served as a classroom teacher and curriculum coordinator in Queensland and international settings, experiences that inform her focus on educational leadership and wellbeing resources in schools and initial teacher education.
Hepburn's research draws on public health and salutogenic theory to address social determinants of health, job satisfaction, stress management, burnout, and career trajectories for teachers. She investigates interprofessional collaborative practice across health and education, student experiences in rural and remote placements, stakeholder collaboration involving parents, school health professionals, and teachers, schools as health-promoting workplaces, and preparedness for practice. Her publications include "Mindful practice for teachers: relieving stress and enhancing positive mindsets" (Frontiers in Education, 2022, with Carroll and Bower), "The relationship between mindful attention awareness, perceived stress and subjective wellbeing" (International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, 2021, with Carroll and McCuaig), "Promoting stress management and wellbeing for teachers, a pilot study" (Frontiers in Education, 2021), "Conceptualising preparedness for practice: A scoping review of the experiences and perspectives of pre-service and early career teachers" (Teaching and Teacher Education, 2026, with Trompf), "Creating a positive home-school partnership through professional learning for teachers – a scoping review of the international literature" (Teaching and Teacher Education, 2025), "Preparedness for practice, competency and skill development and learning in rural and remote clinical placements" (Advances in Health Sciences Education, 2024), and contributions to studies on parenting attitudes and interprofessional education modules. With over 240 citations, her work advances interventions for teacher wellbeing and collaborative educational practices.
