Susan E. Bristow is a Teaching Associate Professor in the Department of Information Systems within the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. She currently serves as Director of the Professional Master of Information Systems Program and has been a faculty member since 2002, with her affiliation to the university dating back to 1999. Bristow holds an Ed.D. in Human Resource and Workforce Development Education from the University of Arkansas (2013), an M.B.A. (2002), and a B.S.B.A., along with additional degrees from the same institution. Her career includes roles such as Clinical Associate Professor and contributions to program direction in information systems education. As President of the University Teaching Academy (2024-2026), she leads efforts to advocate for teaching excellence, promote innovative learning environments, and recognize outstanding pedagogy across campus.
Bristow's research focuses on mental models, workforce development, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, information systems curriculum, and strategies for student success in technology fields. Notable publications include "Understanding ERP learning success in flipped classrooms" (2018, with S. Bhuiyan et al.), "ERP knowledge: enhancing program growth for workforce impact" (2018, with R. Freeze), "Workforce preparedness of information systems students: Perceptions of students, alumni, and employers" (2013, her doctoral dissertation), "Importance and impact of ERP Systems on industry and organization" (2012, with M. Dunaway), "Process for selecting an ERP system" (2011, with M. Dunaway), and "In-memory and column storage changes IS curriculum" (2023, with R. Freeze). She has also co-authored work on attracting high school minority students to information systems via the Technology Awareness Program (2010, with C. Riemenschneider). Bristow's teaching innovations emphasize flipped classrooms, online learning, and ERP fundamentals. Her accolades include induction into the Arkansas Academy of Computing (2020), the Wally Cordes Chair award (April 2020), and recognition at the 2025 Faculty Teaching Awards Reception for her leadership in the Teaching Academy.
