About Susie

Susie Aldiss is a Research Fellow (Child Health) in the School of Health Sciences within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Surrey. She holds a BSc in Psychology from the University of York and an MSc in Health Psychology from University College London. Since 2004, Aldiss has conducted research primarily focused on children and young people’s cancer care. Her academic interests encompass the experiences of children and young people with cancer, communication regarding cancer, symptoms and treatment among children, professionals and parents, the use of creative methods to engage children in research, and the transition from child to adult health services.

Aldiss has contributed to several key projects, including the James Lind Alliance Children’s Cancer Priority Setting Partnership, which engaged children, carers and professionals to establish future research priorities, and an interview study examining health professionals’ experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her work on transitional care includes developing the ‘Benchmarks for Transition from Child to Adult Health Services’, co-authoring the Cochrane review on transition of care for adolescents from paediatric to adult services, and evaluating the Burdett Trust National Transition Nursing Network. She is currently mapping priorities from the Children’s Cancer and Teenage and Young Adult Priority Setting Partnerships against UK funding and leading a study on information sharing at the end of treatment for children and young people with cancer and their families. Aldiss maintains an active publication record in peer-reviewed journals on topics related to healthcare transition and children’s cancer care.
