Suzanne Greenberg is a Professor of English at California State University, Long Beach, specializing in creative writing within the field of Literature. She earned her BA from Hampshire College and MFA from the University of Maryland, College Park. As a dedicated educator and writer, Greenberg teaches creative writing courses and contributes to the Master of Fine Arts program in the Department of English. Her research interests focus on creative writing, fiction, and creative nonfiction. Greenberg's work has appeared extensively in respected literary journals and magazines, including the Santa Monica Review, LA Fiction Anthology, Mississippi Review, West Branch, The Sun, and The Washington Post Magazine. She maintains an office in MHB 501 and is available during designated office hours.
Greenberg's distinguished publication record includes her most recent short story collection, Shopping for Dad and Other Stories (Arroyo Seco Press, 2024), praised for its stubbornly honest, painful, and funny narratives. Her novel Lesson Plans (Prospect Park Books) was selected as a Library Journal Editor’s Spring Pick and named one of seven great books from small presses worth your time by Reader's Digest. Earlier, her collection Speed-Walk and Other Stories won the Drue Heinz Literature Prize, chosen by Rick Moody, and was a finalist for the John Gardner Fiction Book Award. She co-authored two children's novels with Lisa Glatt: Abigail Iris: The One and Only and Abigail Iris: The Pet Project, both published by Walker Books, a division of Bloomsbury USA. Greenberg also co-authored Everyday Creative Writing: Panning for Gold in the Kitchen Sink, now in its second edition and distributed by McGraw Hill. Her contributions to pedagogy include work in What We Talk about When We Talk about Creative Writing, edited by Anna Leahy (Multilingual Matters, Ltd.). Additionally, her short story “Offering” was published in Silver Screen Reflections: Writing on Film (Arroyo Seco Press, 2023). Through her teaching, publications, and awards, Greenberg has made significant contributions to creative writing and literature.
