Suzanne Moineau, Ph.D., CCC/SLP-L, serves as Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Speech-Language Pathology within the College of Education, Health and Human Services at California State University, San Marcos. In January 2006, she joined the faculty to design, develop, and launch the university's Master of Science, Bachelor of Science, and post-baccalaureate certificate programs in speech-language pathology. Under her leadership, the discipline evolved from an option in the Master of Arts in Education into an independent, accredited department. Prior to her academic career, Dr. Moineau gained extensive clinical experience as a medical speech-language pathologist in acute care settings, including intensive care units. She also worked as a certified public accountant at Ernst & Young, specializing in health care.
Dr. Moineau earned her Ph.D. in Language and Communicative Disorders from the University of California, San Diego, her M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Iowa, her B.S. in Speech-Language Pathology from Rutgers University, and an M.B.A. in Accounting. Her teaching encompasses the neuroscience of communication and swallowing, acquired language disorders in adults, dysphagia, and anatomy and physiology of the speech and hearing mechanism. Research interests focus on the nature of acquired language and swallowing disorders and the scholarship of teaching and learning in speech-language pathology. Notable publications include "Objective Observation: A Socially Just Approach to Student Assessment" (2013), "Exploring the Processing Continuum of Single-Word Comprehension in Aphasia" (2005), "In Search of Noun-Verb Dissociations in Aphasia Across Three Processing Tasks" (2005), and "Holistic Admissions: From Paper File to Live Interview" (2020). She received the 2018-19 Harry E. Brakebill Distinguished Professor Award recognizing excellence in teaching, research, and service. Dr. Moineau has served as Chair of the CSUSM Academic Senate and currently sits on the Academic Affairs Committee of the California Association of Professors of Communication Sciences and Disorders. Her foundational contributions have established CSUSM as a key provider of speech-language pathology education, impacting the training of professionals addressing communication and swallowing disorders.
