About Tim

Professor Tim Shaw is the Professor of Digital Health and Director of the Research in Implementation Science and eHealth Group (RISe) in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney. Holding BSc and PhD degrees, he specializes in forging partnerships across industry, health services, government, communities, and academia to drive high-impact research translation. Shaw serves as Solutions Domain Lead for the Charles Perkins Centre, Principal Investigator in the Westmead Applied Research Centre, and co-chair of the Sydney Health Partners Clinical Academic Group in Virtual Care. He was academic co-lead on the successful bid for the $112 million Digital Health Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) and its inaugural Director of Research. Under his leadership, RISe has garnered over $135 million in research and development funding in the last five years, yielding more than 200 publications and reports. His research centers on leveraging health data to guide clinical practice, deploying digital health for hybrid care models, evaluating workforce impacts, and advancing health equity, particularly for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Shaw has a long association with the Charles Perkins Centre as Project Node Leader for Implementation Science.

Shaw spearheads eHealth education development in the Faculty of Medicine and Health, creating dedicated units of study and tools. Notable publications include 'Development of a conceptual model for eHealth: qualitative study with key informants' (Shaw et al., 2017) and works on frameworks for integrating learning analytics and core competencies for physicians using artificial intelligence. He has earned recognition such as Winner of Excellence in Translational Research. With over 3,300 citations, Shaw's contributions significantly influence digital health innovation, implementation science, and data-driven health improvements through technology and evidence-based strategies.
