Mr Tom Linnell serves as a Lecturer in the School of Education, part of the College of Education, Behavioural and Social Sciences at Adelaide University. His teaching portfolio encompasses a broad range of courses essential for pre-service teacher education, particularly in professional practice and pedagogical foundations. These include Professional Experience 1: Introduction to Educators' Practices (EDUC 1081), Professional Experience 2: Curriculum and Pedagogy (EDUC 2062 and EDUC 2092 for Early Childhood), Foundations in Learning and Teaching 2: Creating Positive Learning Environments (EDUC 2078), Foundations in Learning and Teaching 3: Educating for Diversity and Inclusion (EDUC 3079), Professional Experience 3: Informed Planning (EDUC 3086), Professional Experience 4 (Honours): Inquiry into Practice (EDUC 4245), Humanities and Social Sciences Education (EDUC 2056), Teaching in Rural and Regional Locations (EDUC 4208), and honours-level courses such as Educational Research: Theory, Literature and Policy (EDUC 4224) and Research Methodology: Methods and Ethics (EDUC 4239). Tom Linnell's career trajectory reflects a strong commitment to education and sustainability. Previously, he was a Lecturer at the University of South Australia’s Mount Gambier campus, recognised as an outstanding education lecturer, and Sustainability Coordinator and Educator at Tenison Woods College in Mount Gambier, where he worked with students aged 3 to 18 and the broader community on sustainability, climate change, and ecological values. In 2022, he received the Churchill Fellowship from the Churchill Fellows Association of South Australia to investigate how circular economy education can minimise waste to landfill, involving travels to Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and Northern Ireland. This work resulted in his report, Circular economy and education (2022, Winston Churchill Trust). Additional honours include South Australian Climate Leader of the Year, speaker at the Powerhouse Museum’s 100 Climate Conversations, and George Alexander Fellow. Linnell has engaged in further study at the University of South Australia, University of Tasmania, and Harvard University, advancing sustainability-oriented curricula across educational sectors.
