Travis Crone is a Professor of Psychology at the University of Houston-Downtown, where he has served since 2010. Initially appointed as an assistant professor, he advanced to associate professor and then to full professor. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Crone holds the position of Psychology Internship Coordinator, overseeing field experience opportunities for psychology students. Crone earned his Bachelor of Arts in 2004, Master of Arts in 2007, and PhD in 2010, all from the University of Arkansas. His doctoral training focused on areas that inform his ongoing scholarship in social psychology.
Crone's research addresses key issues in social and educational psychology, including the effects of service-learning in social psychology classrooms, perceived and personal mental health stigma among Latino and African American college students, the relationship between nontraditional student factors and academic entitlement, motivation models for online students, and the role of epistemic beliefs in COVID-19 conspiracy endorsements. Notable publications include 'Social Belonging, Motivation, and Self-Efficacy in Nontraditional College Students' (2025), 'The Role of Locus of Control in Mediating the Relationship Between Nontraditional Factors and Academic Entitlement' (2023), 'Pressure to be Thin from a Religious Source Increases Perceived Pressure to be Thin in Women' (2021), 'Assessing the Relationship Between Nontraditional Factors and Academic Entitlement' (2020), 'Perceived and Personal Mental Health Stigma in Latino and African American College Students' (2018), 'Maintaining Motivation in Online Students: An Examination of the ARCS-V Motivation Model' (2016), and 'Who Gets Blamed for Intimate Partner Violence? The Relative Contributions of Perpetrator Sex Category, Victim Confrontation, and Observer Attitudes' (2012). His scholarship has accumulated over 300 citations. Within the university, Crone contributes to governance as a member of the University Rank and Tenure Committee, Faculty Representative for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences on the Quality Enhancement Plan committee, and faculty in the Honors Program.
