Dr Victoria Bladen is a Lecturer in English Literature in the School of Communication and Arts at the University of Queensland. Her academic background includes a PhD and Graduate Certificate in Higher Education from the University of Queensland, an MPhil in Medieval and Renaissance Studies from the University of Western Australia, an LLB (Honours) from UWA, and a BA from UWA. Bladen's research specializations are early modern literature, Shakespeare on screen adaptations, ecocriticism, and environmental humanities. She authored the monograph The Tree of Life and Arboreal Aesthetics in Early Modern Literature (Routledge, 2022), exploring arboreal imagery in Renaissance culture. She has also written educational guides for Insight Publications on Shakespeare plays, including William Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice (2020), Much Ado About Nothing (2019), Measure for Measure (2015), Julius Caesar (2011), Henry IV Part 1 (2011), and Romeo and Juliet (2010).
Bladen has co-edited key volumes such as Shakespeare on Screen: Romeo and Juliet (Cambridge University Press, 2023) with Sarah Hatchuel and Nathalie Vienne-Guerrin, contributing a chapter on aquatic and celestial spaces in Baz Luhrmann's William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet; Shakespeare on Screen: King Lear (Cambridge University Press, 2019), with analysis of The Eye of the Storm; Onscreen Allusions to Shakespeare: International Films, Television, and Theatre (Palgrave Macmillan, 2022) with Alexa Alice Joubin; and Shakespeare and the Supernatural (Manchester University Press, 2020) with Yan Brailowsky. Additional chapters cover the forest palimpsest in As You Like It (Manchester University Press, 2024), Elsinore's ecosystem in Hamlet (2022), screen magic in Prospero's Books and The Tempest (2017), and spectraltech in Shakespeare (Journal of Language, Literature and Culture, 2025). In teaching, she coordinates ENGL3020 Literature Professional Placement and ENGL2040, supporting literary studies and placements.
