Warren Taylor is a Lecturer in Communication Design in the Department of Design at Monash Art, Design and Architecture (MADA), Monash University. He founded The Narrows in 2006, a curatorial project focused on the convergence of art and design. The Narrows has hosted exhibitions by notable graphic designers such as Ronald Clyne, Experimental Jetset, John Melin, Rogerio Duarte, Peter Brotzmann, Les Mason, and Karel Martens. Taylor has designed publications for artists including Jon Campbell, Matt Hinkley, Bianca Hester, Marco Fusinato, Nicholas Mangan, and Elizabeth Newman. He has initiated print workshops to connect artists and designers through print media. Taylor edited and designed MIFF60, a publication tracing the history of graphic design for the Melbourne International Film Festival. He delivered a keynote address at the international conference Graphic Design, Exhibiting, Curating at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, Italy.
Taylor's research encompasses Australian graphic design and The Narrows. Key outputs include Dwelling on the Platform: Housing Access and Equity in the Digital Society (2023, design), Retro-Fit Kit: Design tools for making our homes accessible (2022, team design), Making their Mark (2017) in Paperback Pioneers: Sun Books (1965-81), Graphic Archive (2012, curation), and Some Kinds of Duration (2012, design with Nicholas Mangan). He has earned recognition through awards such as an Award of Merit in the Place Category at the 2022 Designers Australia Awards for RetroFit Kit, Finalist in the 2022 Victorian Premier's Design Awards for RetroFit Kit, First-cycle winner and short-listing for World Health Organization NCD Lab innovative tools for Kids Co-designing Healthy and Sustainable Environments resource tool-kit (2020, team), and State Library of Victoria Creative Fellowship (2015, with Dominic Hofstede). With 17 research outputs spanning design, curation, and commissioned artwork, Taylor contributes significantly to communication design practice and education.
