Dr Weiyang Xiong is a research psychologist and casual academic in the College of Education, Psychology and Social Work at Flinders University. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Cognitive Science from the University of California, Los Angeles, awarded in 2018, a Master of Arts in Psychology from New York University, awarded in 2021, and a Doctor of Philosophy from Flinders University, awarded in November 2025. His doctoral thesis examined the mental health and wellbeing of Chinese international tertiary students in Australia.
Dr Xiong’s research focuses on psychology and clinical psychology, with particular emphasis on acculturation, identity processes, sociocultural transition, and the mental health and wellbeing of international students. His key publications include the 2025 article “The acculturation challenge: A longitudinal investigation of acculturative stress and mental health of Chinese international students in Australia” in the Journal of Affective Disorders, the 2025 article “Cross-sectional study investigating the mental health and wellbeing of university students in Australia” in the International Journal of Intercultural Relations, and the 2024 systematic review and meta-analysis “Comparing the Mental Health and Wellbeing of Domestic and International Tertiary Students” in the Journal of International Students.
