About Wendy

Dr Wendy Ng is an Associate Professor at Melbourne Law School, University of Melbourne, serving as Director of the Competition Law and Economics Network and Associate Director (China) of the Asian Law Centre. She earned her LLB (Hons)/BCom and PhD from the University of Melbourne, with her doctoral thesis receiving the Chancellor’s Prize for Excellence in the PhD Thesis and the Harold Luntz Graduate Research Prize for Best PhD Thesis. She also holds an LLM from Columbia University. Before joining Melbourne Law School, Ng practiced as a lawyer at leading international commercial law firms in Melbourne and New York and lectured at the University of Adelaide. As a Non-Governmental Advisor to the International Competition Network, appointed by the Hong Kong Competition Commission, she has collaborated with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and development partners to foster competition law and policy in Southeast Asia.

Ng specializes in competition law, emphasizing China, international and comparative aspects, and political economy. Her key publication is the monograph The Political Economy of Competition Law in China (Cambridge University Press, 2018). Other significant works include 'Changing Global Dynamics and International Competition Law: Considering China’s Potential Impact' (European Journal of International Law, 2019), 'From Divergence to Convergence: The Role of Intermediaries in Developing Competition Laws in ASEAN' (Antitrust Law Journal, 2022), and 'State Interest and the State-Centered Approach to Competition Law Enforcement in China' (Antitrust Bulletin, 2020). Her accolades include the 2015 Gaire Blunt Scholarship from the Law Council of Australia’s Business Law Section, the 2018-2019 ABA Section of Antitrust Law International Scholar-in-Residence Award, Concurrences Antitrust Writing Awards for best academic articles on Asian antitrust (2021) and cross-border issues (2022), and designation by Global Competition Review as one of the 25 most influential antitrust academics worldwide in 2022. Through advisory roles, lectures, and editorial contributions, Ng significantly impacts global competition law scholarship and policy.
