William Donner, Ph.D., is a prominent figure in Social Science at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), serving as Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Sociology. He holds multiple leadership roles, including Senior Associate Dean in the College of Liberal Arts, Interim Director of the School of Interdisciplinary Programs and Community Engagement, and Associate Director of the Center for Survey Research. Affiliated with the Disaster Studies M.A. program, Dr. Donner earned his B.A. in Sociology from Millersville University in Pennsylvania, followed by his M.A. and Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Delaware. His academic career at UTRGV encompasses teaching, research, and administration within the College of Liberal Arts.
Dr. Donner's research specializations include environmental sociology, disasters, demography, quantitative methods, and statistics, with a focus on population and social vulnerability to disasters, emergency management, and preparedness. His studies address critical issues such as information seeking and evacuation decision-making in hypothetical hurricane scenarios in the Rio Grande Valley.
