Rate My Professor Yasmyn Winstanley

Dr Yasmyn Winstanley is an NHMRC Grant-Funded Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Adelaide, within the College of Health. She completed a Bachelor of Biomedical Science in 2015, an Honours Degree of Bachelor of Health Sciences in 2016, and a PhD in 2021, all at the University of Adelaide. Her appointments include Research Assistant at the University of Adelaide from 2016 to 2017 and NHMRC Post-Doctoral Researcher since 2021. Winstanley’s research focuses on cell metabolism, developmental biology, epigenetics, fertility, paediatrics and reproductive medicine, and the early origins of health, with particular emphasis on reproductive aging, mitochondrial function in gametes and embryos, and the impacts of environmental factors such as perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) on embryo development.

She has received numerous awards, including the Healthy Development Adelaide ECR Publication Award in 2025, the Research Excellence Publication Award (Early Career Researcher, Basic Science) from the School of Biomedicine in 2025, the Early Career Researcher Award from the ANZ Society for Cell and Developmental Biology in 2025, the Campion-Ma-Playoust Memorial Award from the Australian Society for Medical Research in 2024, and multiple travel grants. Key publications include “Telomere length in offspring is determined by mitochondrial-nuclear communication at fertilization” in Nature Communications (2025), “Emerging therapeutic strategies to mitigate female and male reproductive aging” in Nature Aging (2024), and “Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in trace levels via drinking water diminishes mouse embryo mitochondria function across three generations” in Environmental Research (2026). Winstanley serves or has served on committees including the RRI EMCR Council and as state representative for the ANZSCDB, and she supervises honours and higher degree research students.
