Dr. YH Tham serves as a Senior Lecturer in the School of Accounting, Economics and Finance within the Faculty of Business and Law at Curtin University. His academic qualifications include a Doctor of Philosophy in Accounting from Curtin University awarded in 2017, a Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Accounting (MAcc), and Bachelor of Arts (BArts). Tham holds prestigious fellowships as a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand (FCA), Fellow of CPA Australia (FCPA), Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management (FAIM), and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Prior to his academic career, he accumulated more than 15 years of professional experience as a Financial Controller in several multinational companies operating in Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong. During this period, he specialized in financial management, risk management, and strategic management roles.
Tham's research specializations cover auditing, corporate governance, financial reporting, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues, and sustainability reporting. He teaches a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including Financial Accounting, Auditing & Assurance, Computerised Accounting Packages, and Contemporary Business Issues. His contributions to the academic literature include several peer-reviewed publications. Notable works are 'A global review of the literature on and proxies of busy boards and audit committees' published in Asian Review of Accounting (2024), 'ESG Performance and Corporate Governance—The Moderating Role of the Big Four Auditors' in Journal of Risk and Financial Management (2025), 'Busy boards and earnings management – an Australian perspective' in Asian Review of Accounting (2019), 'CEO age and analyst forecast properties' in Asian Review of Accounting (2020), 'Audit quality, corporate governance, firm characteristics and CSR disclosures—Evidence from Indonesia' (2022), and 'The role of directors with multiple board seats and earnings quality' (2023). These publications explore the effects of board characteristics, audit quality, and governance structures on corporate reporting and performance. Tham is open to research collaborations and supervision opportunities.
