Dr. Zara Ersozlu is a Senior Lecturer in Mathematics Education within the School of Education at the University of Newcastle, Australia. She earned her Doctor of Philosophy from Firat University, Turkey, and her Master of Arts from Sakarya University, Turkey. Boasting more than 25 years of international academic experience in Türkiye, the United States, Taiwan, and Australia, her career trajectory includes senior lectureships at Deakin University (2018–2023), research fellowships at the University of Western Australia (2017–2018) and Murdoch University (2017–2018), a research fellowship at National Taiwan Normal University (2016), associate professorship at Gaziosmanpasa University (2014–2016), postdoctoral research at North Carolina State University (2011–2013), and earlier roles at Gaziosmanpasa University as assistant professor and research assistant.
Her research focuses on teacher judgement and responsive teaching in mathematics education, the development of teacher capabilities through evidence-informed approaches and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, learning analytics, and immersive technologies. She investigates students' mathematical reasoning, confidence, engagement, and experiences. Notable publications include the book Cognitive Psychology and Instruction (2014), journal articles such as "The role of technology in reducing mathematics anxiety in primary school students" (2024), "A review of machine learning methods used for educational data" (2024), "Developing Computational Thinking through Mathematics: An Evaluative Scientific Mapping" (2023), "Mixed-Reality Learning Environments in Teacher Education: An Analysis of TeachLivE™ Research" (2021), and "Mathematics Anxiety: Mapping the Literature by Bibliometric Analysis" (2019). Dr. Ersozlu has received the Australian Teacher Education Association (ATEA) Research Recognition Award (2023), ADVANCE Equity in Research Fellowship (2025–2026), and recognition as a Senior Fellow of Advance HE (SFHEA). She holds leadership roles as Discipline Lead for Mathematics Education, Strategic Coordinator of the Newcastle Teaching Performance Assessment, HDR Convenor, and Student Academic Conduct Officer. Additionally, she serves as Associate Editor for the International Electronic Journal of Mathematics Education, Co-Editor for Pedagogical Research, and Editorial Board Member for Reflective Practice. Her work contributes to enhancing mathematics teaching quality and supporting education systems through data-informed practices.
