Zhigang Li serves as Associate Professor of Information Technology and Assistant Chair of the Department of Information Technology within the College of Computing and Software Engineering at Kennesaw State University. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Central Florida. Dr. Li advises the Cybersecurity Education Research Lab, which focuses on developing standards-based cybersecurity curriculum for secondary education. His research spans cybersecurity education, information security, wireless security, IT policy, and related areas in computing. He contributes to the Ph.D. program in Computer Science at Kennesaw State University and is part of the IT research group. Dr. Li has participated in undergraduate research projects, including those funded by the First-Year Scholars Program addressing challenges in cybersecurity education and research.
Dr. Li has authored and co-authored numerous publications, including 'Learning-by-Teaching in CS Education: A Systematic Review' (2022, with Y.J. Li and C. Zhang), 'Go beyond the technology: emphasizing soft skills in IT/IS capstone classes' (2024), 'An IoT-based System of Converting Handwritten Text to Editable Format via Gesture Recognition' (2023), 'A CU Depth Prediction Model Based on Pre-trained Convolutional Neural Network for HEVC Intra Encoding Complexity Reduction' (2022), 'A Computer-Vision Based Engagement Evaluation System for More Effective Learning Design' (2021), and 'Collaborative Learning for Information Security Topics: A Pilot Study' (2020). He has contributed to Open Educational Resources collections such as 'Wireless Security,' 'IT Policy and Law (KSU)' (2018, with Lei Li, Rebecca Rutherfoord, Svetlana Peltsverger, Richard Halstead-Nussloch, Guangzhi Zheng), and 'Advanced Databases.' Dr. Li has been involved in Affordable Learning Georgia Textbook Transformation Grants for OER development in computer science and information technology courses, as well as the GenCyber grant supporting cybersecurity instruction camps for local teachers. His efforts align with Kennesaw State University's designation as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education.
