Brief Description of the Project: We are developing a morphing-based flapping-wing vehicle capable of both aerial flight and underwater swimming. The project involves designing the airframe and morphing mechanism, investigating flight dynamics, trim, stability and control, and conducting wind/water tunnel experiments to characterize control authority in roll, pitch and yaw.
POSITION: Senior Project Engineer / Scientist
SALARY: Rs. 68,000/month + 18% HRA
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of 55% marks and 3 years of relevant experience; OR
M.Tech. in Dynamics & Control or a related field, with a minimum of 55% marks; OR
Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Design, Robotics, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
DURATION: Initial appointment of 3 months, extendable up to 1 year or until completion of the project, subject to satisfactory performance.
JOB DESCRIPTION: The candidate should have a strong background in flight mechanics and control, along with genuine hands-on experience in areas such as:
Fixed-wing, rotary-wing, or unconventional flight locomotion systems
Static trim and stability, including CG, neutral point, static margin, and stability derivatives
Tail design and control surfaces for roll, pitch, and yaw authority
Flight controllers such as Pixhawk, PX4, or ArduPilot, including integration of IMU, barometer, GPS, etc.
ESCs, motors, servos, RC transmitters, telemetry, and power systems
End-to-end design and fabrication of fixed-wing drones
Wind/water tunnel testing, force/torque measurements, and data acquisition
HOW TO APPLY: Interested candidates may send their CV along with a short note describing their hands-on experience with drones/flight hardware. Candidates are encouraged to include links to relevant projects, videos, GitHub repositories, or other work demonstrating their practical experience. Please send your application to nipun@iitj.ac.in with the subject line: “Application – Senior Project Engineer – Flapping Wing Project”
