Committed to putting computer science at the service of society, mindful of its impact on the environment, and upholding the values of solidarity and sustainable development, the Faculty of Computer Science is developing cutting-edge teaching and research. It embraces a broad, holistic and inclusive vision of computer science. It offers bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes, both full-time and part-time, and participates in several joint degree programmes in Namur and Charleroi.
Your responsibilities
Within the Faculty of Computer Science, you will undertake teaching, research and administrative duties. More specifically, you will be responsible for the following activities:
Teaching activities
- You will undertake teaching duties within the various degree programmes organised or co-organised by the Faculty of Computer Science.
- You will teach general computer science courses as well as subjects related to your research expertise, covering their conceptual, methodological, organisational and technological aspects.
- You may also be required to contribute to other degree programmes with which the Faculty of Computer Science is associated.
- Your course portfolio will be determined based on your areas of expertise and the distribution of teaching responsibilities amongst the Faculty’s academic staff. This portfolio is likely to evolve over the course of your career.
- You will also supervise final-year dissertations and student projects.
- You will employ dynamic and stimulating teaching methods, in line with the institution’s innovative teaching policy (PUNCH).
Research activities
- You will carry out your research in the field of IT security (software security, systems security, applied cryptography, information security), whilst also engaging with at least one other area of specialisation within the faculty, in particular software engineering (secure software development, DevSecOps) or artificial intelligence (AI security and privacy).
- You will conduct research into a topical and promising area, both in terms of academic visibility and potential partnerships with industry, with an openness to fields of application such as those covered by the Walloon Competitiveness Clusters.
- You will prioritise topics likely to lead to collaborations with other academics within the Faculty.
- You will conduct research of an international standard, with a view to strengthening and complementing the Faculty’s existing expertise.
- You will supervise PhD theses.
- You will build, lead and manage a research team.
- You will be mindful of the human aspects and societal impacts of computer science.
Community service activities
- You will take part in Faculty Council meetings as well as other decision-making and consultative bodies within the Faculty of Computer Science.
- You will represent the Faculty of Computer Science and the University of Namur in national and/or international scientific organisations.
- You will take part in activities to promote computer science studies at the University of Namur.
- You will help raise the profile of the University of Namur and the Faculty of Computer Science to the wider world through activities that you initiate or to which you are invited as an expert.

Skills/Qualifications
Qualifications, training and experience
You hold a PhD in computer science or an equivalent qualification.
You have:
- proven scientific expertise in the field of IT security;
- experience recognised through international-level publications;
- experience and/or skills in teaching at university level;
- experience and/or skills in dynamic and stimulating teaching methods.
You have undertaken one or more extended scientific or academic stays, or gained significant relevant experience outside the institution that awarded your PhD.
Skills (knowledge, professional skills and behavioural skills)
You possess the following skills:
- the ability to work as part of a team;
- an open-minded approach, the ability to integrate, develop and adapt in terms of subject matter;
- the ability to set up research projects to secure funding within the Faculty’s institutional and industrial environment;
- the ability to lead, or even manage, a team of researchers;
- the ability to incorporate your research findings into your teaching;
- a command of spoken and written French, enabling you to immediately take charge of the courses for which you will be responsible and which will be taught in French;
- a command of spoken and written English.

Contract: This post is awarded for a term of three years if the successful candidate is appointed for the first time as a member of the academic staff of the University of Namur (in accordance with Article 5 of the Academic Staff Regulations). At the end of the three-year term, the candidate will be confirmed and appointed on a permanent basis, subject to a positive assessment by the Evaluation Committee.
