Location: Camden (King's Cross, London)Salary: £38,721 to £49,521 Per Annum Including London WeightingFixed Term / Full TimeClosing Date: 23.59 hours BST on Sunday 28 April 2024Interview Date: Friday 03 May 2024Reference: CBS-0025-24AA postdoctoral research associate with expertise and interest in skeletal biology and/or immunology is sought to study the mechanism of pathological bone formation and resorption in ankylosing spondylitis (AS). The successful applicant will be a member of the research group of Dr Scott Roberts, which contains researchers aiming to delineate the cause and consequence of various skeletal diseases. The successful applicant will also be part of the RVC Skeletal Biology Research Group, which consists of several inter-related research groups united by a common objective, to understand skeletal biology in health and disease.

The post is full time for a period of 17 months. The successful applicant will be responsible for running the experimental program outlined in the funded project, including data analysis and interpretation. The research focus for this project is to better understand how local inflammation drives new pathological bone formation and resorption in AS, and how relevant cytokines modulate bone cell function. This will be achieved using validated in vitro models of human disease.

The successful applicant will have a PhD in bone/skeletal research and/or immunology. Additionally, experience of in vitro (bone) cell differentiation and associated molecular, proteomic and imaging techniques is required. Experience in genetic manipulation and flow cytometry of mammalian cells would also be of benefit. Strong qualities in working independently and day-to-day management to effectively deliver the aims of the project are required.
